Cambridge University Training Workshop on the English Language At BAU

26 April 2012 The Faculty of Arts at Beirut Arab University hosted the Cambridge University Training Workshop on the English Language offered to teachers of English at Beirut Arab University as well as other Lebanese universities. The workshop that was held on the 17th of March 2012 aimed at preserving the traditional English and preventing the emerging input from affecting it negatively. Professor Mayssah Nayal, Dean of Faculty of Arts, along with the teachers of English at BAU attended the workshop.

Professor Nayal and on the behalf of President of Beirut Arab University Prof. Amr Galal El Adawi, welcomed the audience. She gave a speech through which she stressed BAU's interest in and commitment to spread English, the most important language in this age. On the other hand, Mrs. Ghina Itani, Coordinator of the Language Center, pointed to the intermediary role that the English language plays among the university faculties.

After that, Mr. Peter Locantoni, Educational Consultant and Teacher Trainer at Cambridge University, talked about the basis of the English language and its usage mechanisms that serve specialized academic goals that, in turn, correspond with the requirements of its users. On the other hand, Mr. Steve Ogden, Educational Consultant and English Language teacher at Cambridge University, talked about the strong relationship between the English language and technology. He dedicated considerable amount of time to dialogue and discussions with the audience.

The workshop included an English test to the audience. It consisted of a number of questions that required from the audience to search for answers by turning to a small library outside the hall.
