Drugs: Blight of Contemporary Youth A Lecture at BAU

26 April 2012 In the framework of educating students and the youth about the risks of drugs, the Public Relations Department at Beirut Arab University organized a joint seminar between the Office of Drug Control and the Internal Security Forces and JAD Association on " Drugs: Blight of Contemporary Youth".

The lecture that was held on the 15th of March 2012, at Jamal Abdel Nasser Hall was introduced by Mrs. Zina Ariss, Director of Public Relations Department, who talked about the efforts the university is making to raise awareness of the youth about the risks of this blight amongst Lebanese youth, and the importance of combined efforts of both educational and civil institutions to put an end to these risks.

Mr. Joseph Hawat, President of JAD Association, warned against falling into the vicious cycle of addition. He noted that only 8% of drug addicts are being treated, and thus sent a call to parents to monitor their children and act wisely.

Colonel Joseph Skaf, Chief of the Division of Drug Control in the Lebanese Customs, presented photos that show the methods adopted by promoters of drugs in smuggling those drugs.

Lieutenant Colonel Henry Mansour, President of the Office for the Fight against Drugs in the South, presented figures and statistics indicating that 45% of drug addicts are between the ages 18 and 26% of those are males, while 7% are school and college students.
