20 May 2014Universities USJ, USEK, LAU, AUB, and our University (BAU) Attended this live session .
Some of the questions asked were
1)Are the amounts of petroleum in Lebanon enough to cover our public department. (Asked by USJ oil and gas masters student)
The answer to that question was that the amounts of oil and gas in Lebanon if managed well is much more than enough due to the low population in Lebanon and its relatively low consumption compared to other countries.
2)Is there a low that requires 80% of the working force in the field of petroleum to be Lebanese?(asked by Lau economy student )
The committees answer was the up till now there is no rule that ensures that , end that’s because petroleum engineer graduates in Lebanon are very few but now Lebanese universities are starting to introduce this major to their engineering faculties and hopefully we’ll have a good amount of petroleum engineers by 2020.
3)How can the petroleum administration work with the Lebanese universities in order for its students to be employed as students from universities abroad . (asked by a BAU petroleum engineering student )
The answer was that the doctors in the universities should be the ones who work on the quality of students the teach and that this depends where the university does the training for its students.
4)How will you ensure the employment of females in the petroleum industry knowing that dominated field ?( Asked by BAU petroleum engineering student )
The committee’s answer was that unfortunately we live in a place that doesn’t honor women for example in the parliament no one refuse the women’s, yet no one agreed , and eventually everything stayed as it is . But here comes the interaction of the civil society, and you should start this topic with a group of other people who are able to vote in order to force politicians (since its an election period ) to notice the women’s effectiveness in society .
Eventually at the end of the session the dean spoke with the head of the petroleum committee Dr. Nasser HOTIET and he promised to visit BAU to speak with the students and support them .
