“A Glimpse of a Homeland” at Beirut Arab University
07 November 2012At a time of security difficulties, as the political faces disappeared, they were present in the exhibition for the Artist and Sculptor Nasser El-Halaby at Beirut Arab University. The exhibition which was entitled “A Glimpses of a Homeland”, 43 sculptures represented the faces of Lebanon’s politicians, with all their distinctive features, in a caricaturist mold of sculpting.
The exhibition was held in the Multaqa Forum at BAU Campus in Beirut on the 7th of November 2012 at 5:00 P.M.
After the Lebanese National Anthem was played, and a welcoming speech by Mrs. Zina Ariss, Director of Public Relations Administration in which she announced the beginning of the cultural season of the Academic Year 2012/2013, Prof. Dr. Amr Galal El –Adawi, President of Beirut Arab University took the word. He complemented the guest artist on his works, calling upon the students to visit the exhibition and appreciateed this kind of distinctive art. Prof. El- Adawi linked the cultural season with the University’s strategy to promote art and culture.
In his speech, Nasser El- Halaby thanked the University’s Administration for hosting the exhibition, at a time when the arts’ movements are at a decline. Halaby emphasized the link between true art and the dialectic relation between Man and Nature. He stated that his sculptures are closer to a neutral realistic caricature, intending no attack or sarcasm.
After the opening, the attendees moved about the exhibition, to get to better know the sculptured political faces, expressing their appreciation of the works.
