A Lecture on the Advanced Engineering of the Floating Island at Beirut Arab University- Tripoli Branch

The Faculty of Engineering at Beirut Arab University, Tripoli Branch, hosted Dr. Abdallah Daou for a lecture entitled “The Advanced Engineering of the Floating Island - Dhow 4”. The lecture was attended by Prof. Khaled Baghdadi, BAU Vice-President for Tripoli Branch Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Mahmoud, BAU Deputy Secretary General for Tripoli Branch Affairs, Dr. Nabil Mohareb, Director of the Faculty of Architectural Engineering, Mr. Bilal Hallab, Ambassador of Peace in Northern Lebanon, Dr. Shalaby Abou Shahine, from London College, in addition to staff-members and a crowd of students from the Faculty of Engineering.
In his speech, Dr. Ahmed Lakkani, Director of the Faculty of Engineering at the Branch, welcomed the guests, and emphasized that BAU is very keen on holding scientific meetings and lectures throughout the academic year, to allow students to gain practical experiences that sharpen their professional skills, and to familiarize themselves with the latest innovations in all domains of engineering. 
Dr. Daou opened his lecture with a historical synopsis of floating establishments, their development and their particular designs. He, then, proceeded to present his innovative design, including the Floating Island, Dhow 4. The island is currently under construction in the Tripoli Harbor, North Lebanon. He then described the construction process of this kind of floating islands, as well as the materials used. This was followed by a discussion that lasted for over an hour on the design, the implementation and the assembly of the constructional units of Dhow 4. The discussion further elaborated some technical points relevant to the project.
