A UN Scholarship for BAU to Combat Human Trafficking
11 April 2016The UN Office on Drugs and Crime presented a scholarship to the Human Rights Center for the legal clinics at the Faculty of Law and Political Science at Beirut Arab University to combat human trafficking and raise awareness of issues relevant to slavery, sexual abuse and beggary.
Under the supervision of BAU staff-members, lawyers and judges, the project offers registered students the opportunity to work with organizations on cases of human trafficking and securing free legal counselling to protect victims.
The eight-month scholarship helps in establishing a database available to public authorities and human right organizations. It also enhances the expertise of the students at the Faculty of Law, while developing research campaigns and awareness on human trafficking.
The beneficiaries of the project will include victims of human trafficking, the students of the Faculty of Law, the society, public authorities and NGOs.
