24 May 2016

Beirut Arab University celebrated the graduating the 12th class of 62 Specialist Physicians who have successfully completed their years of clinical training in various medical specializations. The Commencement Ceremony was held on campus in Beirut and was attended by Prof. Dr. Amr Galal El Adawi, President of BAU, the BAU Vice-Presidents, the deans, Dr. Omar Houri, BAU Secretary General, Prof. Naglaa Mashaal, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, in addition to Mr. Antoine Boustani, the Head of the Order of Physicians in Lebanon, represented by Prof. Michel Daher, the directors and representatives of Lebanese hospitals and the parents of the graduates.
The event opened with the Lebanese National Anthem and the BAU Anthem, followed by a speech by Prof. Adawi, in which he drew attention to the methodology adopted by the Faculty of Medicine, which has helped in enhancing the scientific and cognitive skills of the students. This is achieved through the establishment of the standards of quality for medical education, and a culture of cooperation among the medical specialties. The Faculty program adopts an integrative approach, which aims at bringing together all the basic and clinical sciences, to sharpen the students’ professional skills.
Prof. Adawi also pointed out that scientific research has become a main graduation criterion adopted at the University. Thus each physician submitted a medical research conducted during their work at the hospital. This created an opportunity for the students to publish their papers, which in turn represents an added value that enriches their scientific and practical skills. On the other hand, this has strengthened the ties of cooperation between the University and the hospitals in the field of research.
The speech of the Head of the Order of Physicians in Lebanon was delivered by Prof. Michel Daher, who called upon the graduates to be a role model for all others working in the field of medicine, which he described as a sublime profession.
Prof. Naglaa Mashaal, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, highlighted that this year’s graduates completed 12 research papers, thanking the directors and physicians at the hospitals for their supervision of the papers and for organizing workshops.
This was followed by a number of speeches by the hospital representatives. Dr. Ahmed Zaatari of Hammoud Hospital praised the University for upgrading its educational programs and developing its training program at the Hospital. Dr. Anas Mougharbel of Makassed Hospital pointed out that granting specializing physicians clinical titles is in agreement with their scientific qualifications and their medical expertise. Dr. Ibrahim Dghaim of Sahel Hospital focused in his speech on the ethical behavior which distinguishes the medical profession.
Dr. Ghazi Nsouli of Rafiq Hariri University Hospital emphasized that the presence of graduating physicians at the Hospital had a positive impact on the work flow. Dr. Hussameddine Bitar of Zahraa University Hospital pointed out that the Hospital’s supervision of the graduating students manifested itself in securing the general safety of the patients, training the physicians and organizing scientific lectures.

Dr. Pierre Khoury of the Notre Dame du Liban Hospital stated that BAU has made great achievements.
