Concluding the “Your Role” Project at BAU
05 December 2015The Human Rights Center at Beirut Arab University in collaboration with the “Volunteers without Borders”, Association organized the closing ceremony of the “Your Role” Projects for youth and volunteers. The project is part of the implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed by both parties, and was carried out at Beirut Campus, under the patronage of Mr. Mohieddine Kishli, General Director of Secondary Education, and with the participation of a large number of volunteers at the Association and the Center.
After the Lebanese National Anthem and the University Anthem were played, Anchor Mohamed Kais moderated the event, and Nadine Shaar delivered the participants’ speech. She highlighted the importance of the project in dealing with social issues, studying communal needs and identifying the society’s requirements.
In turn, Ms. Sara Ajouz delivered a speech representing Secondary Schools. She stated that the project evoked hope in a generation that believes in change.
The Director of the Project, Ms. Olga Farhat, pointed out in her speech that the project has helped in disseminating the culture of dialogue and accepting the other. It also created an opportunity to communicate with younger generations, and for free and responsible expression, as well as for the building of a brotherly civilization.
The Coordinator of the Human Rights Center at Beirut Arab University Ms. Salam Zahran maintaining in a speech that the celebration is a joint platform that brings together Syrian and Lebanese youth, to cooperate and communicate towards the development of their local communities. She also highlighted that the Center is fully open to all civil society organizations, to diversity – whether of nationalities, religions or cultures. She also mentioned the projects for the renovation of three schools in Tarik El Jadida, as well as the field visits that have taken place and the training sessions that the two parties took part in.
The Director of “Volunteers Without Borders” Association, Mr. Riad Issa, pointed out in his speech that the organization seeks to spread the values, principles and concepts of volunteer work as a means towards citizenship. This is based upon the fact that volunteering is deemed a means towards solidarity and cooperation among people. It is a behavior that helps humans enact their humanity through philanthropic activities, providing help and offering services. The Organization, thus, aims to achieve positive change and making a difference in the society.
This was followed by a word by the patron of the event, Mr. Mohieddine Kishli, who stated that all official schools communicate to improve education. He expressed gratitude to both the Organization and the project for the efforts exerted, and called for an enhancement of school curricula through the addition of lessons on volunteer work and community services.
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates.
