The Arts are Lebanon’s Language Until it Returns from its Exile

Beirut Arab University hosted a dream-night on its campus in Debbieh, where love, the Homeland and peace hovered with the wings of a selection of Magida El Roumi’s best songs.
For two hours, the voice of peace drowned out all other noise, allowing the whispers of love to inhabit all ears. The voice of freedom took all to another world, where the culture of life was more powerful than any headlines burdened with the dust and fires of absurd wars and conflicts.
Aspiring to peace in Lebanon and the Arab World, Magida El Roumi’s voice was a clear statement that the will to live lasts for as long as people and homelands last. Deriving from a repertoire of her best songs, both old and new, Magida El Roumi sang to an audience of over 3000 people, who came from all over Lebanon and the Arab World.
Magida El Roumi appeared in a blue dress that reflected the clarity of the Lebanese sky and sea. The concert was attended by HE Fouad Sanioura and his spouse; MP Ammar Houri, representing HE Saad El Hariri; Fouad Fleifel, Secretary General of the Cabinet, representing HE Tammam Sallam; in addition to a large crowd of politicians, ambassadors and diplomats, as well as Prof. Amr Galal El Adawi, President of BAU and his spouse; BAU Secretary General, Dr. Omar Houri and his spouse; Ms. Zina Ariss, Director of Public Relations; and BAU administrators, deans, staff-members, students and graduates.
In a brief speech, Magida El Roumi expressed her gratitude to the University administration for providing the opportunity for the concert. She stated that Lebanon is much larger than its territory, stressing that the cultural and artistic role of Lebanon is the salvation for the homeland. She also stated that the arts are the language of Lebanon until its return from exile.
Magida El Roumi performed a repertoire of her best songs, accompanied by an orchestra of a hundred musicians, conducted by Maestro Lubnan Baalbaki. The concert closed with a wonderful nationalistic medley and a Lebanese folkloric Dabke Dance, against a background of fireworks.
The revenues of this benefit concert went towards funding BAU scholarships.
