Honoring Zohrab, the Late Artist At Beirut Arab University
30 March 2017The values of love, fraternity, motherhood, confronting the society with its advantages and disadvantages, as well as some societal features, were all images captured at the exhibition of paintings organized by the Public Relations Administration at Beirut Arab University. The exhibition was held to honor the late artist Zohrab, under the patronage of Dr. Ghattas Khouri, Minister of Culture, represented by his advisor, Dr. Nizar Daher. The event was attended by the members of the University community and the art world.
The exhibition, which hosts tens of paintings by Zohrab, highlighted the dominant values of the society, and the structure of human relationships. The paintings, thus, represented love from an emotional aspect, but also through the lens of co-existence, as well as slavery. The colors bring to live elements of fire and air in a prominent and vivid touch.
The event opened with the Lebanese National Anthem and the BAU Anthem, followed by a welcoming speech by Ms. Nora Abou Daher, in which she recalled Zohrab, who reluctantly closed his palette, while his works stood the test of time.
Prof. Amr Galal El Adawi, President of BAU, praised the works of the late artist, indicating that they are a unique attempt at casting light on social issues, in a distinctively creative approach. He also pointed out that these works are an important contribution to the cultural and artistic scene.
The speech of the family was delivered by Mr. Fouad Shehab, who expressed his gratitude to the University for honoring the artist as well as other prominent figures in Lebanon, while stimulating the arts through the organization of such cultural events.
Dr. Nizar Daher delivered the speech of HE Dr. Ghattas Khoury, stating that it is the Ministry’s intention to organize future events to honor pioneering artists in Lebanon.
This was followed by Prof. Adawi presenting the family of the late artist with a shield of honor, in appreciation of the artist’s life and works.
In the end the guests toured the exhibition which continues at the Moultaqa, Beirut Campus, until 5th April 2017, opening daily from 10:00 am till 5:00 pm.
