Inauguration of the Legal Clinics at BAU
11 September 2012In cooperation with Johns Hopkins University, the Faculty of Law and Political Science inaugurated legal clinics in Beirut Site seeking harmony between the theoretical studies and the practical implementation of the curriculum. This would allow students to follow up on real-life legal files under the supervision of specialized professors and licensed lawyers.
The opening which was held on the 11th of September 2012 at Rafic Hariri Building, was attended by Prof. Amr Galal El Adawi, President of BAU, Prof. Hanafy Holail, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, Mr. Issam Houri, Secretary General of BAU, Prof. Hafiza Al Haddad, Dean of Faculty of Law and Political Science and President’s Advisor for Legal Affairs, Dr. Omar Houri, Assistant Dean and Director of the Human Rights Center, Prof. Mohammad Mattar, Executive Director of the Protection Project at Johns Hopkins University, Mrs. Zina Ariss, Director of the Public Relations Administration, faculty deans, faculty members and directors and the participants of the “Harmonization of the Law: The Hague Conference, Unidroit and UNCITRAL” Conference.
After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the attendees toured the various clinics which are equipped with offices, a court room and a meeting room. Prof. Haddad and Dr. Houri clarified the mechanisms adopted in the practical training of students in these clinics.
The opening of these clinics, together with the activities held at the Human Rights Center, is a step towards achieving BAU’s plan which aims at enhancing students’ legal awareness.
This is further emphasized in the “ Harmonization of the Law” Conference which sought to unify the legal systems in the Arab World.
