Launching the BAU Lebanese Red Cross Club
28 March 2014The Students’ Activities Department at Beirut Arab University launched the BAU Lebanese Red Cross Club – Students’ Activities announcing that 180 students have already joined the Club which aims to disseminate human values as well as promote the notion of volunteer work and community services among the students.
The event was held on the 28th of March, 2014 and was attended by Prof. Dr. Amr Galal El Adawi, President of BAU, Prof. Dr. Essam Osman, Vice-President for Medical Sciences, Mrs. Mariam Ghandour, Vice-President of the Lebanese Red Cross, Mr. Nadim Hitti, Head of the Youth Department at the Lebanese Red Cross, Mr. Nabil Itani, Head of the Beirut Commission of the Lebanese Red Cross, the deans of the faculties, BAU directors and a crowd of attendees.
After playing the Lebanese National Anthem and the BAU Anthem, Prof. Dr. Amr Galal El Adawi highlighted in his speech BAU’s keenness on developing a sense of social responsibility among its students in parallel with the academic role played by the University. The aim is to build and refine their personalities, and graduate good citizens. He also pointed out the similarity between the goals of both the Human Rights Center and the Center for Entrepreneurship on the one hand, and the goals of the Lebanese Red Cross on the other, in terms of their focus on humanity, freedom and the rights of each individual in the society.
Mr. Nadim Hitti spoke about the role to be played by the Club in the light of the current situations in the Arab World and the needs of the Lebanese society. The aim is to disseminate human values and principles, a culture of peace and the rejection of violence, and the amelioration of human suffering regardless of their allegiances. He stressed on the importance of the Club at the University to build a generation of youth, enriched with knowledge and science, and enhance their abilities and skills. This generation will believe in the culture of change, and will be able to affect their surroundings to build a society founded on human values whose principles are neutrality and volunteer work to serve humans and humanity.
Miss Nadine Abla, Head of the Students’ Activities Department at the University stated that the aim at establishing the Club is to enhance the concept of volunteer work and community services among students. It also aims to qualify the student to become a representative of the University after graduation in serving humanity, becoming a role-model, and carrying the banner of science and humanitarianism.
The event concluded with the distribution of the membership cards to 180 students at BAU while the Lebanese Red Cross anthem was playing. The President of BAU and the Head of the Red Cross Youth Department exchanged the symbolic keys of the Club as an announcement to their effectiveness.
