MP Dr. Bassem El Chab Lectures about the Heart at Beirut Arab University
04 December 2013As part of Beirut Arab University’s Cultural Season, Member of Parliament Dr. Bassem El Chab presented a lecture entitled “Heart Surgery between Reality and Imagination”. The lecture which was held on the 4th of December, 2013 was attended by H.E. Saad El Hariri, represented by MP Dr. Ammar Houri, MPs Dr. Khaled Zaharman and Dr. Atef Majdalany, Prof. Dr. Amr Galal El Adawi, President of BAU, Deans of the Faculties, Wakf El Bir and Ihsan Board of Trustees Members, Mr. Issam Houri, BAU Secretary General, BAU Administrators and a crowd of specialists and Medical Students.
After the Lebanese and BAU Anthems were played, Mrs. Zina Ariss, Director of Public Relations Administration introduced the lecturer, highlighting his achievements and enormous efforts in the field of Heart Surgery. She indicated that the Lebanon the speaker believes in, is the healthy country represented by its Capital Beirut. He firmly believes in a democratic free nation, which embraces all its citizens.
MP Dr. Bassem El Chab opened his lecture with a historical review of Heart Surgery. He pointed out that it is the most modern of specializations in the field of surgery, having passed through a number of phases since the first heart surgery conducted. Lebanon had been one of the first countries in the world to conduct this kind of surgery, and its doctors have preserved a high level of professionalism and scientific development. He further indicated the causes that may lead to the need for a heart operation, such as hereditary diseases, smoking, or other unhealthy habits such as alcohol abuse.
He then presented a detailed Slideshow explanation about the formation and the role of the heart organ in the Human Body whereby he stressed on the necessity to consult a group of physicians, i.e. a comprehensive work team, for each individual case, since each patient is a special case.
In conclusion, Prof. Dr. Amr Galal El Adawi, President of BAU, presented MP Dr. Bassem El Chab with the BAU Honorary Shield, as a token of appreciation and gratitude.
