“Medical Education in the 21st Century” A lecture sums up all the Medical Challenges and the Future at Beirut Arab University
03 April 2014Within the framework of exchanging educational expertise in the medical field, the Faculty of Medicine at Beirut Arab University hosted the Vice-President of Sharja University and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Hussam Eddine Hamdy, who delivered a lecture on “Medical Education in the 21st Century – Challenges and the Future”.
Hamdy, whose experience extends over a period of more than 30 years in the field of university education, spoke about the positive factors that have influenced medical education, social progress, the increase in the populace, monitoring the medical sector and the mechanisms for accountability in the medical apparatus.
Hamdy highlighted modern learning methods that rely upon knowledge derived from outside the classroom. Thus learning occurs through seminars that include a small number of students, as well as through the combination between basic and clinical education. He further stressed on the importance of academic research during the early years of medical education, drawing attention to the necessity of accompanying it with updated and developed mechanisms.
The lecture which took place on the 3rd of April, 2014 at Beirut Campus was attended by the President of BAU, Prof. Dr. Amr Galal El Adawi, BAU Secretary General, Mr. Issam Houri, staff-members and the students of the Faculty of Medicine. It was introduced by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at BAU, Prof. Dr. Naglaa Mashaal, who stated that the program adopted at the Faculty focuses on responding to the community needs and is compatible with the international criteria of the 21st century.
The University of Sharja and Beirut Arab University signed an agreement of cooperation in 2012 which stipulates enhancing cooperation in various fields, including academic research, the exchange of lecturers, researchers and students, in addition to the exchange of research data and educational materials, as well as organize joint academic conferences.
