“My Journey to Surgery” A lecture by Prof. Nadey Hakim at BAU
28 November 2014Beirut Arab University hosted Prof. Nadey Hakim, Surgical Director of the West London Transplant Unit at Imperial College, Healthcare NHS Trust, and Governor of the American College of Surgeons, for a lecture entitled “My Journey to Surgery”. The event that was held on the 28th of November, 2014 at Jamal Abdel Nasser Hall- Beirut Premises demonstrated the significant moments in Prof. Hakim’s professional, practical and personal life, in addition to the most prominent successes he made internationally as a physician of Lebanese origins. He elaborated on how he had succeeded in joining the most prestigious medical edifices around the world, where he had conducted the most important and delicate surgeries that changed the lives of his patients, taking them from despair to a new lease on life.
The event was attended by BAU President, Prof. Dr. Amr Galal El Adawi, BAU Vice-President for Medical Sciences, Prof. Dr. Essam Osman, BAU Secretary General, Mr. Issam Houri, the deans of faculties, academic staff-members, the representative of Organs Donations Society, Mrs. Farida Younan, as well as a large crowd of students, physicians and interested people.
After the national and BAU anthems were played, the emcee, Nadine Koleilat, welcomed Prof. Hakim as a role-model who bears all the traits of distinction and success from the land of cedars. Prof. Dr. Naglaa Mashaal, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine next spoke, highlighting the fact that Prof. Hakim’s presence at BAU is a significant opportunity to enhance the abilities of medicine students with outstanding and successful experiences.
In his turn, Prof. Hakim gave a slide show presentation of the various stages of his life, highlighting his steps from one success to another. He focused in particular on delicate operations that he undertook during his career, stressing on the significance of the bond between a physician and his patients when conducting such surgeries. Hakim also spoke about the importance of time which contributes in the success of the person when it is used in the right professional way. He concluded by expressing his gratitude to BAU for hosting the lecture, and to the students who enriched the event with their technical questions and queries.
At the end of the event, Prof. Dr. Amr Galal El Adawi presented a shield of appreciation to Prof. Hakim in honor of his long medical career.
