Omar Al Farouk Al Nakhal Signs his First Book Edition at BAU
30 May 2013Beirut Arab University hosted the book signing ceremony of a graduate and current colleague at BAU, Mr. Omar Al Farouk Al Nakhal, who has published his first poetry collection entitled “Taghreed” (Chirps). The event was attended by Mr. Issam Houri, BAU Secretary General, Prof. Dr. Mayssah El Nayal, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, staff-members, University Directors, Mrs. Zina Ariss, Director of Public Relations Administration, in addition to a crowd of colleagues, friends and interested people.
The event opened with the Lebanese national anthem and the BAU anthem. Rima Chehab, the presenter of the event, introduced Al Nakhal as a poet of distinctive and unique style as well as a deep and rich linguistic repertoire. She added that the day witnessed the launching of a journey of creativity through the collection Taghreed, accompanied by the chirps of friends, the joy of companions and the wishes of relatives.
Mrs. Zina Ariss, Director of the Public Relations Administration, then delivered a speech, praising the first work by Al Nakhal, pointing out that this is the first Book Signature Ceremony BAU hosts 53 years ago, i.e. since its establishment. She also highlighted that BAU had embraced Al Nakhal as a student, as a graduate and now as an employee. Ariss described Al Nakhal as a reliable person who is preoccupied by humanitarian and spiritual issues.
In his speech, Al Nakhal thanked the University for hosting the celebration of the birth of his dream Taghreed, culminating the mutual sense of belonging shared between himself and this grand edifice. He stated that “The title Taghreed was a volume of ink and a container of melody into which I poured by emotions as they were: maddening at moments of rebelliousness, saddening at moments of departure, and pure when singing the praise of dear Beirut.”
Elaborating on the parts of the collection, Al Nakhal said that they mix Standard Arabic with colloquial Lebanese Arabic, prose passages and short sincere spiritual episodes, without any indication of time.
After reading one of the poems inspired by the Syrian revolution, as the latest of the Arab Spring revolutions, Al Nakhal proceeded to sign the publication for the audience.
