One Hundred Engineering Projects By BAU Students

The Faculty of Engineering at Beirut Arab University- Debbieh Campus, organized its “Sixteenth Engineering Projects Day”. Five-hundred Engineering students from Debbieh and Tripoli Campuses participated in this Day presenting over 100 projects in the fields of Civil, Mechanical, Communications, Electronics, Electrical Power, Computer, and Industrial Engineering. The event was held on 5th of May 2014, and was attended by a number of Engineering Companies that are always keen on attending such important Engineering Events in order to select and promote the best projects emerged.
The opening of the event was attended by Eng. Khaled Chehab, Head of the Order of Engineers in Beirut, Eng. Mohamed Al Saoudi, Head of Saida Municipality, Prof. Dr. Khaled Baghdadi, BAU Vice-President for Tripoli Branch Affairs, Prof. Dr. Sobhi Abou Chahine, BAU Dean for Students’ Affairs, staff-members and students.
The student Sandi Shaaban, Fourth Year Civil Engineering opened the ceremony in a speech whereby she highlighted the intended goals of this activity which had been achieved. She considered that every project presenter is a winner, since the students have all developed their ideas and skills to attain the recognition and make a humble contribution to the pioneering reputation of BAU in Lebanon. 
Prof. Dr. Adel El Kurdi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering spoke next, stating that one of the things the event aims at is to enhance students’ awareness of entrepreneurship. Students have learnt that their future goals should not focus solely on the employment. He also pointed out that the role of the Faculty includes providing students with innovative ideas with support, and encouraging them to launch projects that may solve engineering problems and meet the current and future needs of the society.

Engineer Mr. Khaled Chehab, in turn, spoke about entrepreneurship in terms of taking the initiative, an aspect that the Syndicate will focus upon in the future. Addressing the students, he stated: “Here you are, preparing to move into the professional world. You have enriched yourselves in terms of science as well as technical and administrative knowledge. Well-used, these will provide you with great success in a world fraught with competitiveness and power. Engineering is not limited to blue-prints, maquettes and technical aspects. It is a state of creativity, search and development to attain professional quality mixed with new horizons and visions.”
The attendees then toured the various parts of the exhibition, giving the students the chance to explain their projects in detail. At the end of the event honorary shields were distributed to the first three winners.
