Petroleum Engineering at BAU

The Department of Petroleum Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering at Beirut Arab University has officially joined the SPE-BAU Chapter. This is a significant first step in Lebanon, and the new branch will be inaugurated in a special ceremony to be held later, to further highlight this branch and the potentials it offers.
The Department organized a workshop on complex drilling and mining, in collaboration with ZADCO, represented by Eng. Hadi Hajjar. The workshop was attended by Prof. Adel Kurdi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, who thanked Dr. Nasser Hoteit for his attendance as representative of the Petroleum and Gas Sector in Lebanon, Dr. Clovis Francis, representative of GOPELC for building engineering capacities in mining and refinery funded by the European Union, as well as Dr. Hadi Abou Chakra, Head of the Industrial and Management Engineering and Petroleum Engineering Department.   
In his speech, Dr. Nasser Hotait discussed the current status of the Petroleum Sector in Lebanon in general, and praised the efforts exerted by Lebanese universities. He also praised the pioneering role BAU plays in the field.
Mr. Clovis Francis in turn explained the importance of GOPLEC projects in developing the academic sector and also praised BAU for its effective role in the project.
In turn, Dr. Rami Harkous hoped that this step may be a good start for Lebanon in general and for BAU in particular. He also hoped that the event would culminate in further cooperation between the Petroleum Sector in Lebanon and Emirati ZADCO.
