Robot Design: An International Contest at BAU

In an attempt to organize an international contest for designing Robots at the level of schools and universities in Lebanon by the beginning of 2013 to be hosted by BAU, the Mathematics and Computer Science Department at the Faculty of Science organized a workshop to introduce the Vex Robotics International Contest for Designing and Programming Robots.

 Vex Robotics International Contest is considered one of the most significant robot contests in the world. It is annually held in more than 25 countries worldwide with the final rounds usually organized in Anaheim, California State, during the month of April.

 The workshop was held on the 28th of September 2012 and was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Dr. Rajaa Fakhouri, Dean of Scientific Research and International Relations Dr. Mohammad Reslan, Faculty members, and interested students  as well as representatives of the participating Universities: The Lebanese University, Lebanese American University, Rafic Hariri University, Saint Joseph University, Haigazian University, AUST, Islamic University, Global University, Balamand University and the American University of Beirut.

 Dr. Fakhouri pointed out the importance of such an activity which was launched by the beginning of the academic year and in which a number of universities and schools in Lebanon will participate aiming at keeping pace with the fields of technology and community service.

 In turn, the Head of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department Dr. Mohammad Abdul Rahim noted that Vex Robotics promotes the development of many fields which in turn procures more job opportunities in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. It also develops the sense of competition and leadership among the participants.
