“Social Communication Networks and Human Relationships” The Title of the Arabic Recitation Contest at BAU
18 April 2013For the sixth consecutive year, Beirut Arab University organized the Arabic Recitation Contest for the students of the Lebanese universities. This year’s competition that was held on the 18th of April 2013 was entitled “Social Communication Networks and Human Relationships”. The aim was to encourage students to improve their oral Arabic performance, their ability to discuss and their skill to express their ideas in fluent Classical Arabic in the presence of a jury and an audience.
Fifteen students from eight Lebanese universities competed in front of a jury that consisted of Dr. May Chediac, Mr. Omar Mikati, and Mr. Bassam Barrak, as well as a crowd of students, university professors, the President of BAU, Prof. Dr. Amr Galal El Adawi, the Vice-Presidents, the Deans of the Faculties, Mr. Issam Houri, Secretary General of BAU, Mrs. Zina Ariss, Director of Public Relations Department, and University directors.
The event was presented by the colleague Abeer Ghazal whereby she reminded the competitors of the terms and conditions of the competition via a social communication network site, broadcasted on a screen in the hall. She welcomed BAU guests, audience and the Jury and emphasized on the beauty of Arabic Language and the importance in keeping it alive as our mother language.
President of BAU, Prof. Dr. Amr Galal El Adawi stressed in his speech on the importance of the competition that seeks to preserve the Arabic language from invading languages which are now circulating among young people on various social networks, and that are totally alienated from linguistic authenticity.
After each contestant gave his/her oral five-minute presentation, BAU distributed Certificates of Appreciation to all competitors, and granted the winners monetary prizes distributed as follows:
- First Prize, of $3000.-, was equally divided between Farah Diab from the Université Antonine and Kafaa Mosaed from the University of Balamand.
- Second Prize, of $2000.-, was equally divided between Thaer Leabar from Beirut Arab University and Sonia Al Samrani from Nortre Dame University.
- Third Prize, of $1000.-, was equally divided between Maria Inissia from Université Saint-Esprit de Kaslik and Nataly Awada from the Université La Sagesse.
The President of BAU also honored the jury by granting each member the University Shield as a token of appreciation for their achievements.
