“Take A Snapshot” At Beirut Arab University – Tripoli Branch

Beirut Arab University – Tripoli Branch – organized a competition in photography entitled “Take a Snapshot”, with the participation of 178 students, representing 30 Secondary Schools from all areas of the Lebanese North. The aim was to present a true image of the North of Lebanon and the beauty of its landscapes and nature.
The competition was held on the 20th of March, 2015 and was attended by Prof. Dr. Amr Galal El Adawi, President of BAU; Prof. Dr. Khaled Hassan Baghdadi, BAU Vice-President for Tripoli Branch Affairs; Prof Dr. Adel Kurdi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Prof. Dr. Ibtihal Bastawisi, Dean of the Faculty of Architectural Engineering; Mr. Mohamed Hammoud, Deputy Secretary General for Tripoli Branch Affairs; Mr. Ahmed Sankari, Coordinator of the Branch; the Directors of Faculties, as well as a large crowd of school principals, parents and students.
The jury consisted of Dr. Saleh El Rifaii, a professor of photography; Mr. Jamal El Saidi, Director of Photography at Reuters – Beirut; Dr. Mohamed Sobhi, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Architectural Engineering; Ms. Anna Serano, staff-member at the Faculty of Architectural Engineering, BAU. 
In his speech, the President of BAU announced the organization of a free training course in photography, to be offered for the first twenty winners at the competition, as well as the organization of a festival for photography in the North. 
This was followed by a speech by Prof. Khaled Baghdadi, who reiterated the University’s efforts towards enhancing the importance of the North, both touristically and aesthetically, while focusing on promising talents. 
The competition included entertaining sketches prepared by the dance, acting and music clubs at BAU. The event concluded with the announcement of the results, which were as follows:
First Prize, of $1000.-, was awarded to Elissa Munir Howaik from Ecole Saint Joseph Batroun.
Second Prize, of $750.-, was awarded to Omar Jamal Zant, from Al Manar Secondary School in Kalamoun.
Third Prize, of $500.-, was awarded to Yara Nazih Moussa, from the Ecole Nationale Orthodoxe-Akkar.
Fourth Prize – the Reuter’s Prize for Photography – was awarded to Melissa Simon Abboud from College Saint Maron Des Soeurs De La Sainte Famille / Tripoli.
