The First Class of Physiotherapists Graduates at BAU
18 May 2016The Faculty of Health Sciences at BAU graduated the first class of The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) in a ceremony held at Beirut Campus. The event was attended by Prof. Amr Galal El Adawi, President of BAU, Prof. Essam Osman, Vice-President for Medical Sciences, Dr. Omar Houri, BAU Secretary General, in addition to the deans, the heads of physiotherapy departments at universities and hospitals, and Mr. George Boueiri, Secretary General of the Arab Union of Physiotherapy, as well as the head of the Order of Physiotherapists in Lebanon, Mr. Khalifa Khalifa and the parents of graduating students.
After the Lebanese National Anthem and the BAU Anthem were played, the Head of the Physiotherapy Department, Dr. Ibtissam Saab, gave a speech, in which she highlighted that the Physiotherapy Program at BAU comes in response to the fast developments witnessed in the profession. It constitutes a qualitative improvement as it contributes in enhancing the clinical competence of graduates, fostering their ability to take diagnostic and therapeutic decisions with greater efficiency in accordance with the standards of international graduates.
In his word, Prof. Moustafa Mourad, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences stated that the program qualifies physiotherapists capable of competing regionally and internationally.
In turn, Mr. Khalifa Khalifa hailed the liberal framework for physiotherapy in terms of diagnosis and modern techniques.
Mr. George Boueiri called upon the graduates to be proud of their University, which aims at the highest standards. He further described physiotherapy as the profession of the present and the medicine of the future.
Prof. Amr Galal El Adawi, President of BAU stated that the investment in specialties is a priority in medical health concerns, including the specialty of physiotherapy. This field on the one hand will be beneficial to the citizen’s health, and on the other hand to the national economy, because of its low medical cost in many cases. BAU based its initiative, which is the first of its kind both locally and in the Arab World, to implement a curriculum for graduating a Clinical Doctor in Physiotherapy.
Prof. Adawi also pointed out that the Physiotherapy Program at the Faculty of Health Sciences has attained International Academic Accreditation.
