The Future of Virtual Patient Learning A Workshop at Beirut Arab University
25 August 2015The Faculty of Medicine at Beirut Arab University organized a workshop on “The Development of Medical Education to Solve Medical Issues”, moderated by Prof. Hossam Hamdy, Consultant on Medical Education at the WHO, and BAU President’s Consultant for Developing Medical and Health Education. The workshop was held on the 25th of August 2015 at Beirut Campus whereby a team from Switzerland, consisting of Prof. Andrea Laus, CEO of Lifelike, Prof. Giulio Tavarnesi VPL product specialist of Lifelike, and Prof. Cesar Alonso, Middle East Area Manager of Lifelike moderated the development of software and its implementation in medical education.
The Dean of Faculty of Medicine Prof. Naglaa Mashaal praised the development of the curriculum at the Faculty since 2010 in alignment with the BAU Strategy and in fulfillment of its leading role in higher education in Lebanon, the Arab Region and globally.
In the workshop, the medical students used virtual reality and dealt with a virtual patient made possible by the great technological advancement achieved in software, through which a virtual reality is created that allows the dealing with and training on patients. This new technology using virtual patients is the latest trend in medical education, implemented by the Faculty of Medicine at BAU throughout the years of study, ensuring that physicians are trained to acquire enhanced skills and professional abilities.
