The Launching of the Second Regional Course “Human Right in the Arab World” at Beirut Arab University Debbieh Site

In Cooperation with the Arab Academic Network of Human Rights, the Human Rights Centre at BAU launched the second regional course “ Human Rights in the Arab World” in Debbieh Site on the 25th of June, 2012.
Among the attendees were the Cultural Attaché in the Palestinian Embassy, Mr. Maher Mchaiel, Ms. Carla Bou Kheir, representative of Raoul Wallenberg Institute, Dr. Fadi Daou, Head of Adyan Association, Lawyer Maya Mansour, Dr. Omar Houri, Director of Human Rights Centre as well as a number of lecturers from the different Arab Countries.
 

Twenty Students from Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Palestine, Iraq, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon are enrolled in this course for 3 weeks during which they will be trained on conducting researches and on fieldwork in an attempt to create a group of Arab researchers in the field of human rights.

A movie showing the Human Rights Centre objectives and activities followed the Lebanese anthem commenced the course, after that, Dr. Houri had the chance to express his pleasure to have students from the different Arab Countries in this course, especially during such political conditions. He, also, stressed the importance of discussing some topics of relation to human rights in the Arab Countries and assured the Centre’s attempts to develop the course syllabus in the future.

In her turn, Ms. Carla Bou Kheir thanked the University for hosting this course and stressed its significance in spreading the culture of human rights among the Arab youth.

The course continues till July 14th, 2012 and includes lectures, workshops and fieldtrips under the supervision of a number of Arab lecturers.
