“Windows onto Nature” At Beirut Arab University
22 October 2015“Windows onto Nature” is the name of the exhibition through which BAU launched its cultural season for the new academic year. The exhibition was held in cooperation with Tajamoa Min Ajl El Fan and Exode Gallery, and with the participation of 80 artists. The artists contributed creative paintings that represent the seasons, and their reflections in the valleys, on the mountains and the waterwheels, in a rich tapestry of colors that addressed the eyes with an aesthetic narrative. The paintings captured the gradual changes affecting the tree leaves, from autumn to the harshness of winter, back to the beauty of life with the advent of spring, and its reflection along the ancient paths surrounded by the seasonal fruits and flowers hanging down from balconies. The windows opened to receive the breeze of spring, heralding the charm of summer, in addition to paintings that merged written and visual reflections into poems that used colors instead of ink.
The opening ceremony was attended by a crowd of art-lovers, in addition to the deans, academic staff-members and BAU administrators, as well as Prof. Amr Galal El Adawi, who highlighted the importance of creativity in his word. He maintained that the elements of nature were of utmost significance in the light of the pollution we are facing. He further indicated that nature is no longer only an inspiration for the arts, but for the sciences as well. In conclusion, Prof. Adawi thanked the artists Hussein Hussein, Khawla Tfaily, Rasha Kaseir, Sarah Nour EL Din, Fouad Shehab, Maroun Nemr, Mary Khouri, and Hisham Takash for their creations, and welcomed the organization of similar exhibitions as part of the University’s efforts towards the preservation of nature.
Fouad Shehab, founder of Tajamoa Min Ajl El Fan, spoke on behalf of the participating artists, thanking BAU for hosting the exhibition. He also expressed his hope that this spirit would extend to all places, to preserve the oases of creativity from extinction.
The exhibition is located in Al Multaqa Hall, Beirut Campus, until Wednesday, 28th October 2015, and is open daily from 10:00 am till 5:00 pm.
