Beirut Arab University Wins the “Future Concrete Competition”
02 September 2015Complying with the Excellency in offering High Educational Standards, Beirut Arab University had proven her efficiency of her selected students when Sara and Nisrine Attar from the Faculty of Engineering got the highest scores and received the top prize of a trip to Denver, Colorado, USA to attend the ACI Fall Convention this November. Their entry was a human scale model that exemplified the importance of concrete in our life and glorified the remarkable properties of concrete.
The team won in the competition organized by the American Concrete Institute (ACI) which recently co-sponsored Future Concrete 2015 – an international conference organized by Advanced Construction Technology Services (ACTS) in Lebanon, the ACI Lebanon Chapter, the Order of Engineers and Architects of Beirut, federation international de beton, and the American Society for Testing and Materials.
The conference provided the construction community with the latest developments and innovative ideas and promote the use of the newest and best practices for the benefit of sustainable construction. A featured event of the conference was the ‘Art of Concrete’ student competition. The ACI Lebanon chapter challenged students to make art out of concrete. The competition attracted 17 groups from seven Lebanon-based universities, showcasing the artistic nature of concrete, and challenged the students to create their original works of art and display concrete’s many varieties of form, function, and beauty. Entries received came in in the form of sculptures, paintings, drawings, photographs, and scale models.
