Nutrition Solutions during the Economic Crisis at Beirut Arab University
05 December 2023The Faculty of Health Sciences – Department of Nutrition at Beirut Arab University organized a lecture for the nutritionist Dr. Carla Habib Mourad entitled "Our nutrition during the economic crisis: challenges and solutions", in the presence of faculty members and interested students to introduce them to how to prepare and follow a healthy diet taking into account the current economic situation in Lebanon.
At the beginning, Dr. Dima Kreidieh, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences - Department of Nutrition, welcomed Dr. Carla Habib Mourad, who is a winner of the Award for Outstanding Achievements in Nutrition Education and Awareness from the American University of Beirut. She is also the scientific coordinator of “Nestlé’s initiative for Healthier Kids in the Middle East”.
Dr. Mourad offered several solutions to preserve our good food under the economic situation and the electricity crisis. She focused in her lecture on inexpensive protein sources of grains such as lentils, beans and others, and how to do shopping in a smart way to avoid wasting food without being spoiled.
She advised students to buy fruit and seasonal vegetables to benefit from them. She explained about the temptations of supermarket offers in buying products in a good way and read their constituents and expiry date.
At the end, the Head of Nutrition Department Dr. Nada Al-Dorra presented the honorary shield of appreciation to Dr. Carla Habib Mourad.
