The Faculty of Law and Political Science at Beirut Arab University held a seminar about human rights entitled “Women's and children's rights during the war, between Islam and the International Humanitarian Law – Gaza’s Model”. The seminar was moderated by the Mufti of Rashaya Dr. Wafic Mohammad Hijazi, and the President of the University of Tripoli, Professor Raafat Mikati, and His Excellency Judge Professor Fawzi Adham. The seminar was held during the Gaza war period where more than 30,000 martyrs were killed in which more than two thirds were women and children. The seminar was attended by a group of Sheikhs and knowledgeable scholars, jurists and university students.
The seminar was launched by a speech for his  Excellency Mufti of Rashya, Dr. Wafic Mohammad Hijazi, emphasizing that Islam is a religion of justice and mercy. He also denounced the genocide in Gaza that killed innocent men, women and children explaining that: “War in Islam does not surpass non-combatants (Civilians), affirming the importance of preserving human rights in all circumstances.
Dr. Hijazi questioned the law's ability to "protect the oppressed and confront the rapists," noting that when "the law of Earth is disrupted, God's law persists and shall not be disrupted."
In this framework, the President of the University of Tripoli, Professor Raafat Mikati, refuted the ramifications and dimensions of the Palestinian cause, stating that it was an "ideological rather than a real-estate issue", in which Professor Mikati linked events in Gaza to its Islamic dimension and explained that they were intrinsically linked to the Palestinian cause, which is "an Islamic civilization issue, not just an Arab issue" and "a future issue not only a historical issue.
In his speech, Judge Fawzi Adham highlighted some prophetic hadith and important attitudes regarding children's and women's rights from an Islamic perspective, citing the words of Imam Abou Hanifa: “Young people are one of the reasons for mercy”. He recommended the importance of compassion for young people in all circumstances and calamities. He also mentioned the hadith of the profit: “We are not the ones who have no mercy on our children and reverence our old people”, which bears the same content. He added, “Islam has called for compassion and mercy for children, the elderly and women for more than 1440 years,” referring to the pioneering of Islam in this regard, preceding the Geneva Conventions and other international conventions and charters that were subsequently drafted and submitted.
