Blood Donation Day 2012

20 November 2012

"Blood donors save Lives" said Dr. Elizabeth Kfoury Baz of the AUB Medical Center. But the lack of sufficient blood donors in Lebanon makes it very difficult to supply the transfusions needed at the hospital, and the AUBMC Blood Bank continues to face difficulty in securing donations of blood.

To motivate more people to donate blood, the AUBMC Blood Bank, Children's Heart Center and the Children Cancer Center of Lebanon  with the collaboration of BAU Students’ Activities Department has organized a Blood Donation day at BAU-Beirut Campus on 20/11/2012.

It was held in Al Moltaka Hall and the process of donating blood was simple and relatively brief. Donors were given pre-donation instructions, filled out an eligibility questionnaire, and received a physical examination to guarantee that the donor is healthy. It took about an average of thirty minutes to complete the donation. Cookies and juice were then offered and the donor was given a pamphlet of post-donation instructions. The Blood Bank also offered its donors other free gifts, including mugs, baseball hats, and special pins, in appreciation of their life-saving deed. Each donor also received an ID from the AUBMC Blood Bank to identify its holder Blood type and gives them a priority if they ever needed Blood.

With the help of the Students’ Activities Department at BAU, the AUBMC Blood Bank will periodically hold blood drives at the BAU. Through increasing awareness and attracting more donors, the AUBMC Blood Bank hopes to motivate more people to donate blood.
